She obtained her Bachelor´s degree in Medicine at the University of Valencia (Spain) in 1997. Between 1998 and 2002 she completed her pediatric residency at the HUiP La Fe in Valencia, specializing in the field of neonatology. In 2008 she joined the Perinatal Research Group of the Health Research Institute at the Hospital La Fe (IIS La Fe) led by Dr. Máximo Vento. She is a member of the Committee of mortality of the Spanish Society of Neonatology since 2010 and of the Committee of breastfeeding of the Spanish Society of Pediatrics since 2013. Her research has been focused on preterm neonatal resuscitation, neonatal respiratory support, patent arteriosus ductus, breastfeeding, mortality and neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.

Current research projects

1. SONSURE trial: Prospective evaluation of a minimal invasive technique for surfactant administration.

2. PRESOX trial: Extremely low gestational age neonates randomly assigned to be blindly resuscitated with 21% vs. 60% oxygen: influence upon mortality and chronic conditions in the neonatal period.

3. Protection against oxidative stress of preterm infants fed with breast milk donated in H. La Fe.

4. HYPOTOP: Multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial comparing the use of early moderate total body hypothermia addition to topiramate or placebo in asphyxiated newborns evolving moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
